January 18, 2022 - VaGAD Final Presentation
On January 18, 2022, Paulo Mendes (NavCert) and Franz Kurz (DLR) will present the results of the VaGAD project in a final presentation. In the project, a novel method for the calibration and validation of GNSS receivers for autonomous driving at Level 3 and 4 was developed.

About the VaGAD project
The goal of the project "A NOVEL SOLUTION TO VALIDATE GNSS RECEIVER FOR AUTONOMOUS DRIVING" (VaGAD) is to develop a new method for the calibration and validation of GNSS receivers in the automotive industry for automation levels 3 and 4 under real conditions.
The method uses simultaneously acquired high-resolution aerial imagery from a helicopter that is precisely georeferenced with ground control points. The images show the vehicle roof with the signalized GNSS receiver antenna. Together with a precise elevation model of the road surface, the absolute position of the GNSS receiver in world coordinates can be derived from the position in the image. The method aims to provide highly accurate reference trajectories in all environments. This also applies to environments where GNSS is not available to facilitate calibration and validation of positioning systems for autonomous driving.
The project ran under the NAVISP Element 2 program and is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) under Grant Agreement No. 4000130873/20/NL/MP/mk.
