NavCert on the assessment of GNSS-based systems for railroad safety – technical article in Coordinates magazine

Qualifizierung von GNSS-basierten Referenzgeräten zur Bewertung von GNSS-Geräten

European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is the European standard for the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and command and control systems. ERTMS is a safety system enforcing compliance from trains with speed restrictions and signalling status.

In recent years, GNSS has been recognized as an important sensor system for the implementation of ERTMS in the field of virtual balances. Our colleagues Ernst Phillip Mrohs, Sravan Machiraju and Matthias Aichinger- Rosenberger present with their technical article in Coordinates Magazine an approach for the qualification of GNSS-based reference devices for the assessment of GNSS devices that will later be used in trains for safety-critical applications, e.g. identification of moving blocks. The focus of the document is the underlying assessment process according to the regulations required in an accredited laboratory for GNSS such as NavCert as the only laboratory accredited in Europe in the field of GNSS.

COORDINATES, is an exclusive monthly magazine on positioning, navigation, associated technologies and applications. It focuses on LBS/GPS/GALILEO/GLONASS/ and other GNSS systems. It also covers related technologies and applications like Mapping, Surveying, Cartography, Timing etc. It also highlights GIS, Remote Sensing, LIDAR, Photogrammetry etc and their applications.
